• Resin 3D printing releases harmful fumes and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the printing process. What are the risks?

  • Printing Process

    Fumes are emitted from the printer during the printing process.

  • Handling Resin

    Handling Resin directly exposes you to fumes and irritants.

  • Opening the Lid

    All of the contained fumes are released when opening the printer lid.

  • Wash and Cure

    The wash and curing process exposes you to IPA in addition to resin fumes. This may be the step with the greatest exposure.

What are the solutions?

  • Use Ventilation

    Vent harmful fumes outside. Our 3D Venting solution removes fumes from the printing process while the machine is running.

  • Bring In Fresh Air

    When venting contaminated air outside, replace it with fresh air. It is important to bring fresh air into your workspace.

What does not work...

  • Respirators: These work! And will protect you if you have carbon cartridges. However, it only protects a single person. In our experience, respirators are not used even if they are available. They are uncomfortable. Respirators fail if they not worn.

  • Air Purifiers: are very expensive for an effective model, and still do not remove all the fumes. High-quality carbon air purifiers require expensive filter replacements. Air purifiers fail when you can still smell the resin fumes.

  • Opening windows: This is a good idea! But may not be practical most of the time. Also requires fans to move the fumes outside, and bring in fresh air. This fails if you can't open a window in your climate and season.
